THe University of North Texas, also known as UNT or North Texas, is a public university located in Denton, Texas, the flagship campus of the University of North Texas system, which includes the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, University of North Texas Research Park, and the University of North Texas at Dallas. UNT enrolls 32,181 students, employs 911 full-time and 311 part-time faculty, and is the largest university in the north Texas area and the fourth largest university in the state.

North Texas offers degrees from ten colleges and schools. The College of Music is one of the largest music schools in the nation and features a world-class jazz studies program, as well as excellent programs in composition, and theory, history, and education. The School of Visual Arts (SOVA), is one of the largest and most comprehensive visual arts programs in the nation.

UNT's Emergency Administration and Planning program draws in students from all over the US as well as internationally, thanks to the school's close proximity to FEMA's Region VI headquarters. The Department of Public Administration offers one of the oldest and most respected programs in the country, ranked as the best in the Southwest for city management/urban policy, and 10th nationally.

UNT athletic teams are called the Mean Green, and they participate in the NCAA Division I-A as well the Sun Belt Conference. UNT is number one in the conference in soccer and women's basketball.

UNT alumni consist of a vast and diverse group of well-known and distinguished names such as actor Joe Don Baker, gospel singer Pat Boone, Pulitzer Prize winner Mike Cochran, actor Thomas Haden Church, jazz pianist/vocalist Bob Dorough, musician Bobby Fuller, Eagles singer/songwriter Don Henley, Grammy award winner Norah Jones, Roy Orbison, Dr. Phil McGraw, and actor Peter Weller.
