NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
The University of New Orleans, often referred to as UNO, is a medium-sized public university located in the heart of New Orleans, and is a part of the Louisiana State University system that also includes campuses in Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Eunice, and Shreveport. This urban campus enrolls approximately 17,000 students, including 13,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduates. There are 577 full-time and 267 part-time faculty members.

UNO is a major urban research university, categorized as an SREB Four-year 2 institution and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Intensive, as well as a COC/SACS Level VI institution. UNO offers six campuses in the New Orleans area, the Lakefront Campus located on the southern shore of Lake Pontchartrain only 15 minutes from the French Quarter, Research and Technology Park, East Campus, Downtown Center, Jefferson Center, and Slidell Campus. The school is still recovering from 2005's Hurricane Katrina, but is open for the 2006 fall semester.

UNO's athletic teams are called the Privateers, and they participate in the NCAA Division I (I-A for football) as well as the Sun Belt Conference. Teams include men's and women's basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, track/field, cross-country, volleyball, and swimming.
