Texas Tech University (TTU) prides itself on its ability to set up its students for both professional and social success, by helping them cultivate practical skills in both areas. While offering fantastic traditionally technical programs in engineering, agricultural sciences, communication, architecture, and medicine, TTU also offers wonderfully career-boosting programs in business. The Rawls College of Business at TTU has been moving up through the ranks of public business schools since its inception. The college offers 5 separate programs in accounting, marketing, finance, information systems and quantitative sciences, and management. Many of these programs can be also undertaken as complements to study in another field. A dual-degree in, for example, in architecture and management demonstrates a unique understanding of both the technical and business aspects of building and thereby makes its holder more marketable to employers.
Need help picking a major? The on-campus Career Center is designed to provide students with information regarding the career options available to them and with assistance in the pursuit of their career goals. Career Services representatives are there to help students determine what course of study will best suit their career or graduate school plans. These representatives are also responsible for helping students who are ready to enter the workforce find employers who are interested in hiring a talent TTU grad for either a permanent position or a temporary resume-building internship.
Tech's 26,000 students are never at a loss for something non-academic to do, as the school prides itself on making students feel welcome. Students are encouraged to participate in many of the school's time-honored traditions, like the Carol of Lights, held at the start of every holiday season. Outdoor activities are very popular at Tech, given its wonderful climate and athletic success. The women's basketball program is perhaps the school's most accomplished, as a Sheryl Swoopes-led team won a national championship in 1993. In all, there are over 400 clubs and organizations available for Tech students looking to get involved in their collegiate community. TTU is thus able to welcome students of just about any particular taste. TTU offers a wide range of distance learning options for off-campus students, no matter what their present situation. Courses are available for current undergraduates who wish to accelerate their degrees, for high-school students looking to earn college credit, and for professionals who wish to work towards a graduate-level degree or professional certification.
